The leather

What we supply

Belly skins only — the cut used for handbags, small leather goods and watch straps, and the only cut that can be graded and measured consistently. We supply three species: Alligator mississippiensis from 25 to 39 cm, Crocodylus niloticus from 25 to 40 cm, and Crocodylus porosus from 30 to 60 cm belly width.

Every skin is finished in one of five ways — Semi-Matte, Millennium, Garment, Nubuck or Himalayas — and graded by the number of quadrants with defects in the cutting area. Colours come from our standard range or are developed to match your swatch.

Process

How an order works

  1. EnquirySend species, width range, grade, finish, colour and quantity — the full list is below. A complete enquiry gets a quotation in one reply.
  2. QuotationCrocodile is quoted per centimetre of belly width for a given species, grade and finish. We do not publish a price list, because the rate depends on all three.
  3. Proforma invoice and depositWe issue a proforma invoice to confirm the order. Once you confirm, a 70% deposit is prepaid.
  4. ProductionStandard colours are selected from stock. A new colour takes around 4 to 8 weeks under normal production.
  5. Balance and shipmentThe 30% balance is settled before shipment, by TT (bank transfer) or PayPal. Each shipment travels with CITES certification.

Colour

Developing a colour

A custom colour needs at least 20 skins per colour. Send a swatch of the same skin type you are ordering: colour may vary after tanning if a different leather is used as the reference. Under normal production, development takes around 4 to 8 weeks.

If you need fewer skins, choose from our standard colours — there is no minimum order, subject to stock.

Export

Shipping and paperwork

Every shipment includes CITES certification. Tell us the destination country when you enquire, so the export paperwork is prepared for it.

We recommend international couriers such as FedEx, UPS, DHL or TNT rather than Post/EMS: they track and insure the shipment and handle customs clearance in your country. Import duties are not included in our invoice.

We already export to Europe, Russia, China and Turkey.

Before you order

Not sure which skin to order?

Send us the finished dimensions of your piece and how it will be used. We will tell you which species, width and finish our workshop would choose, and how many skins the run needs.

Enquiries

What to include in an enquiry

A complete enquiry lets us quote in one reply instead of three. Tell us:

  • Species — Crocodylus porosus, Crocodylus niloticus or Alligator mississippiensis
  • Width range — in centimetres, or the finished dimensions of the piece you are making
  • Grade — or describe where defects are acceptable in your cutting layout
  • Finish — semi-matte, millennium, garment, nubuck or Himalayas
  • Colour — a standard colour from stock, or a swatch to match
  • Quantity — and the destination country for export paperwork
